The three kinds of percentage problems
X% of Y finds a portion of a whole — like calculating a 15% tip on an $84.20 bill. X is what % of Y flips the question around to find the relationship between two numbers — useful for grading, discounts already applied, or completion rates. Percent change measures growth or decline between two values, such as a price that moved from $80 to $104 (a 30% increase).
Use the "% change from X to Y" mode with a smaller Y — the result will show a negative percentage, meaning a decrease.
(X ÷ Y) × 100. For example, 12 is what percent of 80? (12 ÷ 80) × 100 = 15%.
Yes, all three modes accept negative numbers and will calculate accordingly.
