Body Fat Calculator
Uses the US Navy circumference method — no calipers or scans needed, just a tape measure.
Measurements
Measure waist at the navel and neck just below the larynx, for the most consistent results.
How this is calculated
The US Navy method (developed by Hodgdon & Beckett, 1984) estimates body fat percentage from a few circumference measurements using a logarithmic formula. It's a widely used field method precisely because it doesn't require any special equipment, though it's an estimate — DEXA scans and hydrostatic weighing are more precise but far less practical.
Typically within a few percentage points for most people, but it can be less reliable for very lean or very heavy individuals since it relies on circumference rather than direct tissue measurement.
At the narrowest point, typically at or just above the navel — measure without pulling the tape tight enough to compress skin.
